WHO WE ARE

Farming has been a part of Boone Hall Plantation for over three centuries. We’re very proud of that heritage. There aren’t many farms left in this country that can make that claim. However, with that heritage comes a responsibility to be good stewards of the land.

The agricultural arm of Boone Hall Plantation is known today as Boone Hall Farms. Approximately 120 acres of the plantation is used to grow a wide variety of fresh local produce throughout the spring, summer, and fall.

The South Carolina Department of Agriculture tells us that the variety of crops grown on our farm is as diverse as anywhere in the state. So while there are larger farms in South Carolina, the variety grown here packs a powerful punch.

WE’RE LOCAL

We take great pride in being a local farm owned and operated by people who live and work in the same communities we serve. It is worth noting studies show that $68 of every $100 spent at local businesses is reinvested back locally which contributes in a major way to the economic and social sustainability of those communities. It’s win win for everybody involved. Supporting local business…is good business.

WE’RE FRESH

When it comes to eating healthy, fresh makes a difference. Boone Hall Farms produce is picked fresh daily in season and is often available at our roadside market on the same day because it comes from our local fields, not from across the country. This guarantees it to be as fresh as it gets coming straight from us to the tables of local families as well as to area grocery stores and restaurants. As a result, at Boone Hall Farms, being FRESH and being LOCAL…are attached at the hip.

WE’RE FARMERS

We are Blessed to have rich coastal farmland at Boone Hall Farms. There’s something about that black dirt combined with today’s safe farming practices and a staff whose dedication and love of the land is second to none…that comes together to produce some of the finest produce available anywhere. Quality is our calling card.

We are very grateful that the farm has been voted as “Best Local Farm” by the readers of The Charleston City Paper for 10 years in a row. It’s nice recognition, but more importantly, it validates that we are doing some of the right things and confirms at Boone Hall Farms, farming and community go hand in hand.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Boone Hall has been presenting special events on the farm for over 25 years that embrace FAMILY and COMMUNITY. The Lowcountry Strawberry Festival in the spring and the Boone Hall Pumpkin Patch in the fall have grown to be two of largest of their kind presented in the state each year. Boone Hall Fright Nights is South Carolina’s largest multi-attraction haunted event that is also presented on the farm and is selling out on a regular basis each fall.

Willie's Roadside MarketAT BOONE HALL FARMS

It is an exciting time at Boone Hall Farms as construction on the long awaited new roadside market is now complete and we are open for business. Named after late Boone Hall owner Willie McRae, who passed in 2020, this new facility promises to be one of the premier local open air markets in the state that will be befitting of its namesake.

This groundbreaking structure strikes a towering presence on the Hwy. 17 side of the property and will serve as the gateway to Boone Hall Farms. The timber framework is made out of cypress creating a rustic farm presence and outdoor look. Bracing and supports crisscross and mesh together underneath to create impressive style and design that is likely to wow visitors.

We want to give special recognition and a huge THANK YOU to Coastal Structures out of Georgetown and Building Art, LLC, who teamed up together to bring this project to reality that was designed by architect Will Wingfield of Reggie Gibson Architects.

A LEGACY CONTINUES

Long time Boone Hall owner Willie McRae was a Lowcountry giant. Prior to his passing in 2020, he and his family entered Boone Hall Plantation into a conservation easement agreement with the Lowcountry Land Trust that is one of the largest of its kind in South Carolina history. This agreement ensures that the entire 738 acres that form Boone Hall will remain preserved, protected, and intact for people today and generations yet to be born to come experience and enjoy. Boone Hall will now always be Boone Hall because of this tremendous gift and unselfish act by Willie and the McRae family.

Willie truly believed Boone Hall Plantation is a magical, mystical place for which he had a heartfelt desire and responsibility to share all that it is with people from near and far. He was an innovator whose vision to dare to try new ventures often resulted in success for the various Boone Hall operations. As a result, the plantation has become one of the most recognized historical venues in the world.

Because of his roots to the land, Willie had a special place in his heart for the farm. He was committed to growing some of the finest produce available in the Lowcountry, but also wanted people to be able to see first-hand how that produce is grown instead of thinking it just comes from grocery store shelves. Under his guidance, education programs, u-pick operations, and special events were introduced that allow people of all ages to come on the farm and learn while also experiencing some good ole wholesome family fun on the farm. Our staff today is committed to continuing that legacy.

So as we move forward with an exciting new roadside market, we think it is only right that this new addition be dedicated to and named in his honor. Welcome to Willie’s Roadside Market at Boone Hall Farms.

U-PICK

As previously stated, we believe it is important to find different ways to reach out to our neighbors in local communities to give opportunities to stay involved and engaged with the farm. One of the ways we do that is to open our fields for U-picking of strawberries, blueberries, tomatoes, and grapes during each of those seasons. It’s a great experience where families can pick some of our fresh produce themselves while having some quality time together outdoors on our farm.

FARM STORIES

Farming requires long hours and hard work combined with experience, the latest technology, safe growing practices, and Mother Nature’s favor, to produce fresh high-quality produce for the communities we serve.

We want to share some of the behind-the-scenes happenings that take place at Boone Hall Farms that hopefully will give some insight into how and why we do what we do.
